翻訳と連帯 ─ 金碩禧『地鳴り』について ─
재일 일본어 작가 김석범은 오키나와에 가해진 국가폭력을 목도하고 자신의 고향 제주도에서 벌어졌던 폭력의 기억을 떠올린다. 김석범은 ‘우물’을 파고 들어가다 보 면 ‘지하수’와 만나게 되고, 거기서 또 하나의 넓은 세계와 통하듯 문학 또한 보편 성을 띤다고 말한다. 어떤 한 곳에서 벌어졌던 비극을 파헤쳐가다 보면 다른 곳의 비극과 만나게 되는 것이 바로 냉전기 동아시아 문학을 통저(通底)하는 보편성을 이 해하는 하나의 방법이 될 것이다. 다만, 각기 다른 장소에서 각기 다른 언어가 사용 되기 마련이어서, 보편성에 이르는 통로는 ‘번역’이라는 경로를 통과해야만 한다. 제주 작가 김석희의 『땅울림』은 세대가 다른 등장인물들을 통해 ‘제주독립’에 대 한 상상력을 그리고 있다. 이러한 상상력은 오키나와의 ‘독립’ 사상, 혹은 오키나와 의 일본 복귀를 비판한 ‘반복귀(反復歸)’ 사상을 상기시킨다. 역사적 문맥이 다른 이 두 섬의 ‘독립’ 사상을 동일시하려는 것은 아니지만, ‘독립’이 현실 정치의 층위가 아닌 사상의 층위에서 발화되고 있는 점은 매우 닮아있다. 이때, 그것을 말하는 언 어들은 필연적으로 현실 정치에서는 이야기된 바 없는(이야기되지 못하는) ‘번역’이 라는 작업이 수반되어야 할 터인데, 이 ‘번역’을 통해 언어들은 비로소 각기 다른 장소에서 벌어졌던 비극의 기억과 만날 수 있게 된다.

Translation and Solidarity : About Japanese Translation of Seok Hee Kim’s ‘Ttang-Ullim (Landvibe)’
Kim Seok Bum, a KoreanJapanese writer, prays for nationalviolenceinflicted Okinawa and recalls the memory of violence erupted in his birth place, Jeju Island. It seems that digging into the tragedy that happened in one place meets the tragedy in another place is one way to understand the universality that penetrates the East Asian literature during Cold War. The imagination shown in the term ‘Independent Jeju’ by a Jeju writer, Kim Seok Hee, leads to conversation on Okinawa’s Independence or ‘Antireturn’ that criticized Okinawa’s return to Japan. The purpose is not to identify these two ideas that differentiate in historic context as same, and it is common to discuss independence at the ideological level and not at the level of real politics. As the language used in that would be literarily translated that cannot inevitably be discussed in the level of real politics, the languages through literary translation can finally be connected with the memory of tragedy from different places.
