The purpose of the present paper is to illuminate the meaning of collective memories and struggles of two minority literature: Okinawan literature and Zainichi Korean literature during the postwar/liberation period. Chapter 2 deals with the analysis of “Black Diamond” by Ota Ryohaku and “Second Generation” by Oshiro Tatsuhiro. The “Black Diamond” reminds of the Indonesian independence movement at the end of Japanese colonial period, when Okinawan people groaned in front of the overwhelming power of the US military and accused the colonial situation of Okinawa. Chapter 3 focuses on the lives and literature of two zainichi writers, namely Kim Sokpom and Kim Sijong. Kim Sokpom's “From a Journal in 1949from a Verse From “The Mountain of Death”” was the starting point of Kim Sokpom's literature leading to his masterpiece “Volcanic Island.” As described above, the Okinawan literature and zainichi Korean literature in Japan developed in different ways during the postwar period; however, these minor literatures have a common point of fighting against deepening of the cold war system in East Asia.
