The current study reports a case of conducting the “Capstone Design (Japanese Culture)” course, whose precedent is difficult to find in different fields of majors related to Japan. The paper examines the basic items that must be reviewed in the curriculum, and the results of analysis based on the learners’ data. As such, its position can be presented as a study of the praxis of Japanese language education. With the goals of raising the quality of education and providing information, the three following questions were answered: 1) What is “Capstone Design (Japanese Culture)”? 2) What is the actual process of class development? 3) What are the learners’ thoughts on this course? First, the basic items were summarized in the order of the possibilities of Capstone Design with Japanese and Japanese culture as media, learning goals, objects of learning, contents of classroom sessions, class design, textbook selection, class management, and learning evaluation. Next, the actual cases of classroom praxis were reported, and the subjective thoughts of the learners participating in classroom sessions were analyzed and examined by using KH Coder, a data mining analysis tool. The fruits of this study are expected to be used as basic materials for raising the quality of foreign language education and managing the curricula in the future. The expansion of data, discovery of issues to be explored in class, construction of class modules, and development of evaluation rubrics can be presented as future tasks.
