일본어 가능 표현의 상태성과 동작성에 관하여
‘(ra)reru/eru’에 의한 일본어의 가능 표현은 상태성을 나타낸다고 간주되어 왔다. 그러나 ‘(ra)reru/eru’는 가능뿐 아니라 자발, 피동, 존경 표현에도 사용되며, 이들 표현 은 상태성이 아닌 동작성을 나타낸다. 또 한 가지 문제는 지각이나 인지를 나타내는 동 사를 사용한 가능 구문은 기본적으로 상태성이 아닌 동작성을 나타낸다는 점이다. 이러한 의문에 기반하여 본고에서는 ‘(ra)reru/eru’라는 형식은 기본적으로 상태성 이 아닌 동작성을 나타내며, 가능성을 실현하게 하는 조건의 부가에 의해 항상성을 띠 게 됨으로써 상태성을 나타내게 된다고 가정하였다. ‘NP1ガ NP2ヲ VP’ 유형의 가능 구문은 기본적으로 동작성을 나타내기 때문에 실현 계 가능 구문에 주로 사용된다. 목적어로서 ‘ヲ’격을 취하는 구문은 반드시 ‘ガ’격 주어 를 전제하므로, 이 경우 가능성을 실현하는 조건으로서 동작주를 덧붙일 수는 없다. 따 라서 ‘NP1ガ NP2ヲ VP’ 유형은 능력 가능 구문에는 사용되기 어렵다. ‘NP1ニ NP2ガ VP’ 유형의 가능 구문의 경우에는, 동작주가 없는 ‘NP2ガ VP’의 형태 로 동작성을 나타내며 따라서 실현계 가능 구문에 사용된다. 여기에 가능성을 실현하는 조건으로서 동작주가 부가되면 동작주의 능력을 나타내는 능력 가능 구문이 된다. 이것 이 ‘NP1ニ NP2ガ VP’ 유형의 가능 구문이다. 따라서 ‘NP1ニ NP2ガ VP’ 유형은 능력 가능 구문에 사용되는 경우가 많다.

A Study on ‘State’ and ‘Activity’ in Japanese Potential Expression
The use of ‘-(ra)reru/-eru’ in Japanese potential expression is considered to describe state. However, ‘-(ra)reru/-eru’ is not only used in potential expression, but also in spontaneous expression, passive expression, and polite expression. All these expressions, except the potential expression, describe activity and not state. Another problem is that the potential sentences that use the verbs showing perception or cognition basically describe activity and not state. Based on these facts, the present paper presumes that ‘-(ra)reru/-eru’ basically describes activity and not state, and it changes to describe state when the condition that makes the realization of potentiality possible is added. A type of ‘NP1-ga NP2-wo VP’ potential sentence is used in the potential sentence of realization in many cases because it basically describes activity. The sentence that uses ‘wo’ case as an object indispensably presupposes ‘ga’ case as the subject, and thus, no other agent can be added as a condition for realizing potentiality. Accordingly, ‘NP1-ga NP2-wo VP’ type is hardly used in potential sentence of ability. In the case of ‘NP1-ni NP2-ga VP’ type potential sentence, activity is described in the form of ‘NP2-ga VP’ without any agent. Thus, it is used in a potential sentence of realization. If an agent is added here as a condition of realizing potentiality, this would be a potential sentence of ability that indicates ability of agent. Such a sentence would be ‘NP1-ni NP2-ga VP’ type potential sentence. Accordingly, the ‘NP1-ni NP2-ga VP’ type is mainly used in potential sentence of ability.
